Movement Pains

The human body is an amazing machine, made for movement! Yet in our modern society convenience is king, not movement. We sit in vehicles, sit at work, sit while eating and watching TV. The result is that we often get tight muscles that will put added pressure on the body.

Do you feel like you are wasting your time stretching?

Stretching is time consuming and not as effective because:

  • You have to remember many different positions to stretch specific muscles
  • Body position is criticalfor effectiveness
  • It is time consuming to hold each stretch
  • Often it is difficult to stretch the correct spots
  • Over stretching a muscle can cause that muscle to tighten
  • Targets the muscle groups as a whole and not tightest spots

If your serious about increased flexibility then what you really need is

  • Loosen muscles through compression – like a massage
  • Find the knots that are causing the tightness and/or pain
  • Loosen those knots (also known as Adhesions or trigger points)
  • Loosen the tightest strand of muscle fibers
  • re-align the body and overcome muscle imbalances

Self Myofacial Release, also known as "rolling-out"

This is a self-massage technique that we use with foam rollers and resistance balls of different size and density.
  • Rolling-out is one of the most effective ways to loosen the muscles and increase range of motion and mobility in the joints.
  • Rolling out will assist in loosening up those tight, tense muscles that cause aches and pains.
  • Rolling out is something that is simple to learn and can be one of the most highly beneficial parts of recovery that anyone can do.
  • Rolling out does not take large amounts of time, and can be done at home and where ever you travel too.

Just some of the areas to get relief through Myofacial Release are:

  • Lower back pain
  • Piriformis
  • Sciatic pain
  • Knee pain
  • IT band syndrome
  • Hip pain
  • Tight Hamstrings

"I had my best round of golf & I had no back pain.  Just to play a round of golf with no pain was worth it, but this is the best I've played in 4 months!"

"I felt silly going to get an MRI when my knee didn't hurt anymore."

             -Cpt. N. Gentile

"My foam roller has become an essential part of my exercise routine.  It comes with me to every race and training trip and I roll out my legs after each ride.  I recently had some specific knee and muscle tightness issues.  Stephen showed me exactly where and how to roll to alleviate this pain and it has not been a problem since.  With my foam roller and the proper techniques explained by Stephen, my day to day recovery has improved substantially and this allows me to train and race harder."

-Tim Henry 2008 Jittery Joe's Pro Cyclist
